Our 2nd XI had a strong season in 2025, finishing second in Division Two of the Surrey Downs League and earning promotion in the process. It was a competitive year from start to finish.

Batting highlights

  • Captain Henry Ede finished as leading run scorer with 321 runs, setting the tone at the top and leading from the front. Plenty of important innings in there when we needed someone to stand up.
  • Rory Attridge followed with 313 runs, another really solid season. Reliable as ever and often the glue in the middle when things needed settling.
  • Jack Ware added 207 runs, contributing some valuable knocks across the campaign.

There were also useful runs from others through the order, and while we didn't rack up loads of massive individual scores, we built totals through partnerships and shared responsibility — which is often what gets you promoted.

Bowling highlights

With the ball, we had a clear spearhead.

  • Mike Ching led the way with 29 wickets, including a standout 7/20, one of the performances of the season.
  • Rob Ward backed that up with 20 wickets, giving us control and regular breakthroughs.
  • Support came from Angus Hinton (15 wickets), Tom Ware (13 wickets), and both Sam Jaques and Luke West with 12 apiece — a good spread that meant we weren't reliant on one bowler.

It was a disciplined effort: keeping things tight, building pressure, and taking chances when they came.

Conclusion

Finishing second and going up is a great result for this group. It was a proper squad effort — contributions with bat and ball, good availability, and the right attitude most weeks. Henry led the side well, the group stuck together, and the promotion is well deserved.

On to the next challenge.
